About the Stag Hat Pin
The Stag hat pin brings one of the most traditional of all German hunting motifs to your hat — the noble red deer stag, or Hirsch, head raised as if calling across a mountain valley. Like all of our German hat pins, it’s made by Stöckelmaier of Bavaria, cast in metal and finished with hand-applied color that brings out every detail. At 1¾ by 1½ inches, it’s substantial enough to stand out on the band without overwhelming the hat.
The detail is what makes this one special. The stag is rendered in rich brown and gold with an impressive spread of antlers, framed below by a wreath of green oak leaves, golden acorns, and clusters of bright red berries — the oak being a long-standing German symbol of strength and the forest. At the center sits a crisp enamel shield in the national black-red-gold, marked “Germany” above the federal eagle, tying the whole piece to German heritage.
The oak leaf and the stag together are the classic signature of the German hunt, worn with pride on hunting hats and Trachten alike. It’s the kind of German hat pin that says something about the wearer — a love of the outdoors, the hunt, or simply the traditions of the German forest.
A pin like this is part of a long tradition of personalizing a German hat, where feathers, brushes, and pins each told you something about who was wearing it. This one wears its heritage openly, and it’s genuinely well made — cast and colored with the care you’d expect from a Bavarian maker.

How to Attach
Pinning it on is simple. Fasten the safety-style closure through the side of your German hat’s band the way you would any pin, positioning the stag upright so it faces forward on the crown. When you want it off, just unfasten the pin — it won’t leave a mark, so you can move it between hats or collect several and change them out.

Authentic German Craftsmanship
Every German hat pin we carry comes from Bavaria, and this one is made by Stöckelmaier, cast in metal and finished by hand with the color and detail that set a real Trachten pin apart from a cheap stamped copy. The stag, the oak leaves, and the German crest are all part of a hunting and folk tradition that goes back generations.
Personalizing a hat with pins is part of that same tradition — a hat tells a story through what’s pinned to it. If you’d like to understand how these hats and their decorations are worn, our guide to the history of German hats covers both the story and the practical side, and you’ll find the perfect wool hat to wear it on in our German hats collection.
