About the Edelweiss Hat Pin

Few symbols say “the Alps” like the edelweiss, and this edelweiss hat pin captures it beautifully in solid pewter. Like all of our German hat pins, it’s made in Bavaria, cast with real weight and detail — you can feel the quality the moment you pick it up. At 1½ by 1½ inches, it sits proudly on the band and holds its own on any hat.

The edelweiss has long been a symbol of the high mountains — a rare white bloom that grows only in the highest, hardest-to-reach rocky places, which is why it came to stand for love, devotion, and the daring of anyone who climbed to fetch one. This pin renders the flower in fine detail: the pointed, felted petals radiating outward, and the cluster of tiny studded florets at the heart, all in an antiqued pewter finish that brings out every line.

This is one of our heavier, more substantial pins, cast in pewter and finished with the Stöckelmaier maker’s stamp on the back — the mark of a genuine Bavarian piece rather than a lightweight stamped copy. It’s the kind of German hat pin you keep for years and move from hat to hat.

Personalizing a German hat with pins is part of a long tradition, where each pin says something about the wearer. The edelweiss is one of the most meaningful choices of all — a quiet nod to the mountains themselves and to Alpine heritage.

Features

  • Solid pewter edelweiss in a detailed antiqued finish
  • Heavier and more substantial than an ordinary hat pin
  • Stöckelmaier maker’s stamp on the back
  • Made in Bavaria and imported
  • Size: 1½” x 1½”
  • Butterfly-clutch pin closure
  • Pins easily onto any Alpine, Tyrolean, or hunting-style wool hat

How to Attach

Pinning it on is simple. Push the pin post through the side of your German hat’s band and press the butterfly clutch onto the post to hold it firm. Position the edelweiss upright so it faces forward on the crown. To remove it, pinch the wings of the clutch and slide it off — it won’t leave a mark, so you can move it between hats or collect several and change them out.

Authentic German Craftsmanship

Every German hat pin we carry comes from Bavaria, and this pewter edelweiss is one of the more substantial pieces in the range — cast with weight and detail and stamped by the maker on the back, the way a real Trachten pin should be. The edelweiss has been an Alpine emblem for generations, worn on hats across Bavaria and the Tyrol.

Personalizing a hat with pins is part of that same tradition — a hat tells a story through what’s pinned to it. If you’d like to understand how these hats and their decorations are worn, our guide to the history of German hats covers both the story and the practical side, and you’ll find the perfect wool hat to wear it on in our German hats collection.
