About Us – The Story of Deutsches Haus
Deutsches Haus is more than a business—it is a family tradition that began over 48 years ago, built by my parents who came to the United States after the war in search of new opportunity and a fresh start.
With a deep love for their German heritage and a passion for sharing it with others, they opened a small store that specialized in German gifts, souvenirs, and traditional handcrafted items. What started as a modest shop soon grew into a well-known name in the twin-cities metro area.
For more than 30 years, my parents ran Deutsches Haus with dedication, pride, and the belief that culture should be shared, celebrated, and passed down. They didn’t just sell products—they met people, listened to stories, and brought a piece of Germany to communities all over the United States.
Their shop became a gathering place, and their road-show festival booth became a familiar sight to customers who returned year after year for hats, souvenirs, and a warm connection to home.
Carrying the Tradition Forward
When I stepped into the business, it was important to me to honor the legacy they built while helping Deutsches Haus grow into the next generation. In the early 2000s – long before online shops were common -I brought Deutsches Haus onto the internet so customers everywhere could continue enjoying the traditions my parents devoted their lives to sharing.
Though my parents have since passed on, their presence is still here in everything we do. Every product we offer, every customer we meet, and every tradition we keep alive is a continuation of their work and their dream.
What Deutsches Haus Is Today
Today, Deutsches Haus remains a family-run business dedicated to offering authentic German gifts, souvenirs, and handcrafted collectibles, just as we have for nearly five decades. We still travel to festivals and events across the country, and we are now expanding to include:
- Erzgebirge nutcrackers
- Smokers (Räuchermännchen)
- Christmas pyramids & candle arches
- Incense burners & wooden miniatures
- Black Forest cuckoo clocks
- Music boxes, snow globes & tin toys
- Traditional German hats & accessories
- And many more items coming soon
Every piece we offer represents history, culture, and craftsmanship—values my parents deeply believed in and passed on to me.
Why We Do This
Deutsches Haus has always been about more than selling products. It’s about:
- Keeping German traditions alive
- Supporting artisans and handcrafted work
- Connecting people to their heritage
- Creating meaningful memories through culture
- Honoring the hard work and legacy of those who came before us
This business is family to me – and to many of our customers who have supported us through multiple generations.
Thank You for Being Part of Our Journey
Whether you discovered us at an Oktoberfest celebration, visited our store decades ago, or found us online today, thank you. Your support keeps this tradition alive, and it allows me to carry forward something that began with two hopeful parents who came to America with little more than determination, culture, and love.
Their story continues here – and I’m grateful that you’re now part of it.
Welcome to Deutsches Haus.
A family tradition for over 48 years.
